Memorial Day 21' at L.A. Veterans National Cemetery

We are an "all inclusive" chorus of men and women from their teens to 80s who are dedicated to singing a variety of music in the Barbershop style.

Memorial Day 21'  Article by Ben Marder, Valley Harmony Singers

This year I was invited by a long time friend of mine to participate in putting up American flags beside the graves of our veteran men and women who served in our Armed forces in past wars so gallently and honorably.  I was invited by Barry Chapman, BC-HFP Branch Chief Food Services Division- Pacific Area, Human Resources Directorate U,S, Coast Guard Auxillary. This was at the Veterans National Cemetary in West Los Angeles.

We were sent to the oldest section of the cemetary. In this section were the headstones of men and women who served in the Spanish-American War, WWI - II, and Korea. Present that morning was Nick Ut , Vietnamese  Pulizer Price winning photographer who covered the Viet Nam War in Cambodia, and Laos, for Associated Press. Nick Ut took these pictures of me .

For the past several years up until the Covid-19 Pandemic Stay at Home Order was given; the Valley Harmony Singers have participated along with 5 other choirs in a hour long Memorial Day Service at Valley Oaks Memorial Park, in Westlake village, CA. This year when i was invited  along with the U.S. Coast Guard Axillary, I was honored as a Viet Nam veteran to participate in this very moving ceremony of placing flags.  Hopefully next year the San Fernando Valley Chapter, Valley Harmony Singers will once again sing at the 29th Annual Memorial Day Service .
