The Music Team Mtg. was called to order at 7:10pm on Thursday, December 8, 2022. Phil Lockwood and Ron Malkin were absent.
I notified the Team that I received a call from Warren Garfield to let me know that he has decided to retire from the Chapter. Because of the COVID numbers rising he and Joy are really concerned. He also mentioned the reason he hasn't been on Zoom for the last few weeks is because he really can't sing with the chorus. I told him I was not happy with the news, but I understood. I told him that he will be missed and down the road if things get better and he wants to come back to join us, the door will always be open for him. He also said if we want to continue with the show idea, "Beautiful Dreamer II" he would be happy to help wherever he could.
I let the Team know that I had heard from Cathy Kileen, FWD VP of SoCal West Division, that the FWD had decided on a venue and dates for the PreLims/SoCal Division Convention. The venue will be in Burbank and the dates were changed and set for 3/23-3/25/22. She said she would get back to me with more details soon. After speaking with her, I checked on our yearly calendar and noticed that the Region 11 Sweet Adelines Convention was happening the same time in Bakersfield. I immediately notified Cathy of this and she was surprised. She said she would check with the FWD Board and get back to me.
The Team reviewed the Permanent/Regular Repertoire and Holiday songs that are on our current learning CD's, to decide songs to be removed from new CD's that will be distributed in early 2023. We also discussed and will decide on some new songs to be added to the new CD's.
We also discussed the upcoming performance at the Encino Farmer's Market on Sunday, 12/18. Again, the weather will determine if this happens.
We also talked about the two mail performances we are planning in 2023. We plan on having a Spring Fling/Ice Cream Social sometime in May, and a Fall Show in either late November or early December. We are going to start working on planning for both of these performances NOW!!!
Jeffery Bunch, Chorus Manager, informed the Team that he has had communications with the two schools regarding the Barbershop Music presentation to their Music classes. Time has been difficult at this point with the schools so it has been decided by the teachers that it would be better if we set firm dates for this after the first of the year. Jeffery will contact the teachers at that time. He also let the Team know we had a request for perform at a Senior Living facility here in the Valley, and was also decided that we would plan on this performance after the first of the year.
For the "Good of the Chapter".......we need to keep working on getting new members in the Chapter. This year we have lost four singers and we need to do whatever all of us can do to replace these four voices plus bring in more singers to the chorus. We've managed to maintain our numbers through the COVID issues, so we don't want to lose that momentum. Please....I know this hobby has done a lot for all of us.....now it's our turn to give back!!!!
