Marketing VP Report for 10/18/23

Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce Events:

To make the most out of our membership, I am looking for volunteers to attend one or more of their events to help spread the word.  See me offline if you are interested.

Sherman Oaks Street Fair:

Thank you all who attended.  Especially big shout out to Toni, who was there ALL day from 7am to 6pm, carted, set up and dismantled the booth and still had the energy and entrhusiasm to sing!

Too early to tell just how productive the fair was as a marketing/membership/outreach, will know more in a couple of months.  See Ben's report for the membership side.  For youth outreach, at least 4 different youth groups expressed interest, including the CHAMPS group that had 3 separate performances onstage.

What went well:

  • Stage performance sounded great and was very well received
  • Location:
    • Being next to the stage made lining up and returning to our booth a breeze.
    • It also allowed us to easily view and chat with the youth groups.
    • Parking on the west side by CVS was easy

What was not great:

  • Location made it hard to sing to street traffic with the constant stage music
  • Very long day
  • Late notice of slot to sing on meant some members could not attend

What we would like to improve for next time (assuming we go back)

  • Early petition for a slot onstage (should be easier now that we have an enthusiastic contact at the chamber)
  • Early notification of booth
  • Request for booth on the west side but closer to Willis (away from stage but still easily walkable)
  • Coordinated booth coverage so no group is "stuck" there too long
  • Someone tasked with handing out "we want you" brochures to audience
  • Look into featuring quartets along with chorus onstage

To find out:

  • Cost/discount for repeat vendors
  • Cost if we just perform vs. take a booth
  • How/if we can request a particular time slot for stage (morning preferred)
  • How we can get booth number earlier
  • If cost seems too high, is it worth sharing with another chorus, perhaps a women's chorus?
