Program Vice-President Report 9/14/22

I have spoken to Laura Pallas Singer, director of the Santa Monica Oceanaires chorus, regarding a joint visitation event at Veteran’s Park in Culver City on Saturday October 22.  She is calling this a “Barbershop Bonanza.”  She has reserved the park from 1-5.  She anticipates the event to be from 2-5.  Family and friends are welcome

After introductions I would lead a barbershop-related game.  The Oceanaires would sing about 5 songs and then end with “Coney Island Baby,” directed by Laura.  VHS would then be invited to sing along with “Coney Island Baby.”  Then VHS would sing 5 songs, ending with a polecat-like song that the Oceanaires know.  They would join us in a full chorus directed by Tom.  The song has yet to be selected.

We would also have a slot for chapter quartets to sing a few songs.

We plan do a sign-up for volunteers for mixed quartets, to be selected randomly out of a designated “hat” for each part.  Three agreed upon polecat songs would be selected ahead of time.   These quartets would then sing as part of the program.

We would have a sign-up for snack foods, drinks and possibly desserts.  In the past they have done a collection to buy pizzas, since we will be approaching dinner-time.

Laura would also like to invite the Santa Monica women’s chorus.  She also suggested inviting other local barbershop choruses.

In the coming weeks we would have to make decisions on the following:

  1. A list of  the top three polecat songs.  She believes the sooner we get the list out, the sooner people could review the songs.
  2. A polecat-like song known by both choruses that Tom would direct.
  3. Whether we want to invite other groups.

This is currently a work-in-progress and suggestions are welcome

On Monday October 24, 2022 at about 8:15 p.m. we will be hosting the Riveroaks chorus, who will serenade us on Monday October 24th.  They will be singing four songs from their upcoming show.  No risers will be necessary.
